Since 1980 I have pursued a freelance career in music, teaching piano privately and leading numerous courses in music appreciation for adults in the North West of England and Yorkshire.

I have given piano recitals at many venues, most notably four recitals at the prestigious Square Chapel Arts Centre, Halifax.

I am also a regular church organist.

Music apart, I am an experienced fell walker (when time allows) and I have a keen interest in historic houses and castles.

Here are a couple of pictures from my outdoor travels.

I am an enthusiastic member of the European Piano Teachers' Association (EPTA UK). I have been a prize winner on each occasion (2009, 2011-13) on which I submitted a piano piece to the annual composers' competition.

You can hear all four pieces -- Celebration, Valse Melancolique, Burlesque & Tarantella -- and read the adjudicators' comments.

I was born in 1946 near Altrincham, Cheshire, the third son of Welsh parents. I studied piano and organ at the Royal College of Music and graduated there in 1967. I also have a B.Mus. degree from the University of Durham.

From 1971 to '79 I taught A Level music to students at the Coventry School of Music.

In 1983 I was awarded an M.Mus. degree for composition and piano playing by the University of Sheffield .
